FAQ
Is Riv always watching my screen?
No. Riv only looks when you press ⌃⌥ (Control + Option) and ask, or while he does a task for you. Your question and a screenshot go to OpenAI, the AI behind Riv, and we don’t keep the screenshot. OpenAI’s terms say they don’t train their models on it and delete it within 30 days. More on the privacy page.
How is Riv different from ChatGPT?
ChatGPT can’t see your screen, so you screenshot it, paste it in and explain. Riv sees it the moment you ask, and answers right where you are.
What counts as a task?
A task is when Riv does the work for you instead of answering, like making flashcards from your lectures, saving sources to Notion or shrinking a file so it uploads. Each one counts once, however many steps it takes. Questions, like asking what something on your screen means, are unlimited on Pro and Crystal. On Free, questions and tasks share 20 a month.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. In Riv, open Settings, then Billing. Your plan stays until the end of the month you paid for, then you’re back on Free. Refunds are in the terms.
Will Riv work on my Mac?
Riv works on Macs with an Apple chip (M1 or newer) on macOS 14 or later. To check yours, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. Intel Macs and Windows aren’t supported.
